What is a shell?
Shell is software that provides an interface to users. Shell is important part of any Operating System (include UNIX, Windows, MacOS X, etc.) and it provides access to the services of a main Operating System part - KERNEL. In basic shell is command interpreter used to pass commands from user to Operating System. Shell is originally developed on Multics, ancient UNIX predecessor, but widely propagated via UNIX. When we talk about shells on freehosting-directory.com , we think on UNIX shells which are available for public uses. Any internet user on the world can visit some web sites that offer free shells, register for free and try to type some commands, explore UNIX Operating System or some UNIX clone Linux, BSD etc...
You have various of shells to choose. Most popular UNIX shells are Bourne Shell (SH), Bourne Again Shell (BASH) and CSH (C shell). Any of these shells is different from another. They share same principle of working but they have different features. In our free directory we present you information such as: on which server shell is running, disk quota, does shell provider allow background processes and finally which services provider allows.
Some of users want to run eggdrop or maybe Bouncer (BNC)? It is possible via free shell. Free shell can also serve as your internet free space. You can upload or download files on shell and all for free.
If you are new user and you don’t have experience with shells at all, we provide you some basic commands. Just type commands in CLI (command line interface) and shell interpreter will execute it and you will see standard output (on screen). Click here to learn about shell commands.
Just choose right shell provider for you from list bellow and see detail description.
